Six Hours of Riding

Just a quick update on the Buell.
Rode for over six hours this weekend, over three hours one way and the same for the return trip. The bike handled well, definitely have no complaints, in fact the only real issue was the seat, it’s great for getting around town and going on quick runs somewhere, but anything more than an hour or so can become a bit uncomfortable on the backside and back.
Seat aside, the bike performed well. Had plenty of power and torque to get down the road, and handled just fine. Highway speeds feel like the bike is running pretty high in the rpm’s but it seemed to run just fine (it is a single cylinder with a 5-speed after all), however, 55-60 mph feels pretty smooth.
So if you feel like getting out and getting away from the busyness around you take your time and I think you’ll be in for an enjoyable ride.

Dusting Off the Dashboard

It’s been a crazy long time since my last post, but I’m still around. Haven’t had too much going on, however, there’s been a recent addition to the family… an ’03 Buell Blast. Finally have a motorcycle, and have been logging some pretty good seat time on it. I’ll save the corny line about the Blast being a blast and spare you the agony, however, I will tell you that it is a good bike. It’s handled riding around the neighborhood easily and is very capable of running out on the highway. Been venturing out and getting more comfortable with it, refreshing myself on low-speed maneuvering as well (and it handles that just fine). I have no complaints about the bike. Plus side to this one is that the previous owner had added a Vance & Hines exhaust, new air cleaner and had the carb rejetted. It runs really well, and it’s got a pretty good sound to it.

Appearance wise the bike is pretty simple. It’s nothing to drool or go crazy over, but it’s not another Ninja, Rebel or GZ 250. It’s a little more sportier.

Mechanically everything works good. It handles well, accelerates well, shifts are good and for the most part pretty smooth. Again the simplicity of the bike finds its way to the mechanical side as well. No frills, simple and gets the job done, and done pretty well.

Handling is good and feels confident. It’s a pretty light weight bike that’s easy to maneuver at low speeds all the way up to highway speeds.

Those are some brief overviews of the Buell Blast, and overall I’d definitely recommend the bike to anyone looking to get into riding a motorcycle or if you just need something to commute with. Not to mention that you can find them for a good price, generally around $2,000. And it’s American made.

The unfortunate thing is that Buell, as a company, is no longer around as of this past year. However, if you own a Buell and still race then you can still get parts. And as far as I know, Harley is still doing maintenance on Buell motorcycles. Until the next time, keep the rubber on the road.

Blowing Off The Dust

Well, it’s now been almost a month since I last posted (goodness, time flies by fast) but I have not forgotten. Took my truck out the other day for the first time in about 2-3 months. Poor thing needs to get cleaned up, but I’d really like to get a new motor and trans. in it one of these days. Valves are going on the motor and the trans. slips a bit, at least, it feels sort of sluggish. Maybe that, and more, will get taken care of in the coming year… hopefully. Still holding off on getting a motorcycle, just don’t have the funds for it at this time, which is part of the reason nothing has happened with my truck.

Switching gears a little bit, I’ve noticed that the Nightster review has been getting a lot of hits. That makes me glad, a quick thank you to everyone who has looked at it, I hope that it has helped. I still think the Nightster is an amazing piece of machinery.
